DAEDALUS' HYMN TO
THE NAMES OF PASIPHAE

From SKETCHES FROM . . .KNOSSOS by Don Berry

O Pasiphae, Moon-Goddess, Queen of the Kheftiu
Whose name is She Who Shines for All
Thou art ever-changing Moon, thousand named

In the west they name you Britomartis the Good Maiden
And in the eastern island you are called
by the Moon's name, Dictynna, She of the Fishing Nets

Great Cow, mating with the sky bull, the sun bull
To give this world being in multitude
making of the One the Many

She whose sign is the Double Axe
And Horns
Praise Her

She whose colors are
Red, white, and black
Praise Her

She whose Thousand Faces
Exhaust all possibility
She Whose Plenitude Nourishes

She whose daughter is named
Most High Fruitful Mother of the Barley
To Whom the serpent is sacred, and the dove

Your Priestesses chew the laurel leaf
and see the radiance of Your vulva
Birthing worlds beyond counting

O Pasiphae, Moon Goddess, Queen of the Kheftiu
I praise your Names
